Screening finds cancer before it announces itself, when treatment works best. Saskatchewan runs three organized programs through the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, and the practical details differ enough that people miss out just by not knowing the entry rules.
Breast: self-referral from age 40
- Screening mammogram every 2 years from age 40, with no doctor's referral needed. As of July 1, 2026, eligibility is fully lowered from 50 to 40.
- Eligible if you have no breast symptoms, no implants, aren't in active breast cancer follow-up, and have been breast-cancer-free for 5 years.
- Book yourself: call BreastCheck at 1-855-584-8228 (Mon-Fri, 8:00 to 4:30). Regina's permanent screening centre is at 100-4545 Parliament Avenue, and two mobile mammography units serve other communities.
Cervical: ages 25 to 69
- Pap test every 3 years for all women and people with a cervix, ages 25 to 69, who have ever had sexual contact.
- Keep screening even if you're pregnant, HPV-vaccinated, in a same-sex relationship, or not currently sexually active.
- Book through your family physician, nurse practitioner, or a clinic offering Paps; CervixCheck mails invitations when you're due. Saskatchewan labs already run HPV reflex testing on certain results.
Colorectal: the kit comes to you
- Home FIT (fecal immunochemical test) every 2 years, ages 50 to 74, with a valid Saskatchewan health card. You don't need to sign up: ColonCheck mails invitation letters and kits automatically.
- One stool sample, no dietary or medication restrictions. Return it in the postage-paid envelope to a medical lab or an indoor Canada Post location (not an outdoor box; the sample is time- and temperature-sensitive).
- Results go to you and your doctor and show up in MySaskHealthRecord. Questions: 1-855-292-2202.
Not eligible: people with inflammatory bowel disease or a colonoscopy in the past 5 years follow a different path through their provider.
